"create your own luck"

I believe in the fact that a man/woman makes their own luck with what they are handed in life.  Along with saying that I also believe in the functionalist theory and conflict theory.  I believe that you can't have a functionalist society without having some conflict because of the simple reason that you can not have a perfect society. 
People that create there own luck means people how take what they are dealt in life and make the best they can of it. Even through many challenging moments and adversity throughout their lives. So yes I believe very strongly that people create their own luck and anyone can make a bad life into a good life but vis versa, people with good lives can also turn it around with a bad decision.

Heroin

Requiem for a Dream is about how heroin affects people’s lives from different standings.  Like how it could divide up a couple, bring a single man to his knees, and drive a sane elderly woman insane.  All of these people were victims of the addiction to the narcotic heroin, which did not just create an addiction for them but caused their lives to almost absolutely nothing. The movie gives a great view of how drugs can actually turn one’s life completely upside down.
Harry and Marion was a couple that shared a love that was torn apart because of heroin. Although they loved one another the drug was too strong for them, causing Harry to trying to go Miami to get his hand on Heroin to distribute and also for his own use.  But Harry and Tyrone were in for a rude awaking when they had gone to a hospital and got into trouble with the law and they both were taking into custody.
While Harry, Tyrone and, Marion were struggling to get drugs Harry's mother Sara was unknowingly getting addicted to "uppers" which is drugs that are prescribed from a doctor a patient gets addicted.  With Sara it was all just about getting skinny for a game show she was supposedly getting onto.  But it only drove her to keep taking the drugs to lose enough weight to fit into a dress she wore to Harry's high school graduation many years ago.  That is all it took for her to get addicted to a drug that pushed her to go out of her way of regular life and get addicted to drugs.
When it comes to Harry, he should of reacted to the fact that he knew his mother was using uppers and get her help before she abused them more.  Harry could have saved his mother’s life from a mental asylum and maybe even saved his own life and prevent the loss of his arm.
From this movie I will never allow myself to use drugs and help any loved ones around me from using the drugs.  If they already use I will do as much as I can to help them get professional help.

 

 

Drug Inc.

Help against drug use by providing clean needles, teaching how to use, and providing Naloxone which helps reverse the effects of heroin overdose.  These are the first steps the United States government should take to help fight the war against drugs worldwide.  Because there are many other countries that have started groups/agencies that provide clean needles and Naloxone.  And for the United States to get a good start to the fight against drugs they first must help the people that suffer from this disease of addiction.  After these steps are established then we can proceed to further the fight against drug use.  But before we can go after all of these drug lords and distributors' we must lower the fatality rate from people who suffer the effects of addiction from heroin.  There are some groups that are out there in the United States that are trying to push for the U.S. government to give them federal aid.  Because of the fact that state level government has hardly even made it legal for people to offer help to these people addicted to heroin.  When these groups/agencies really need help to fight this ever growing war against heroin use and other drug use alike.

This article is about heroin use in St. Charles where a community neglects to acknowledge the fact that it is becoming a serious problem for them.  This is a serious issue that needs to be taken very serious because this spike in heroin use in the community has already taken several teenagers lives.  But a reason why the community refuses to come to terms with this situation is beyond reasoning because there is no reason for people to neglect to react to solve this problem.  Anywhere teens try to revert attention of heroin use in the white community by placing the white teen that had ODed on heroin, by placing the kid into a black neighborhood trying to avoid any attention that the situation drew.  What kind of community raises kids that are so scared of a tarnished reputation of their community.  This situation is an example of how where media has brainwashed kids to think that poor black neighborhoods are a prime area for drug use.  We need to change this terrible cycle that causes many people to believe stereotypes that are hardly true.  This terrible cycle has caused many conflicts between people causing a division between two parts of the communities.

 

Violence

This article talks about how many different things we do and things we use affect human nature for violence.  Like how X-box games can actually help transfer negative energy that would fuel anger on the streets like gang violence and domestic violence.  With a way to channel all of your anger and curiosity towards video games on the Xbox children/ young adults stay away from crime.
Another statistic that proves to show lower crime rates in cities is the destruction of housing projects.  The reasoning's behind this is because it takes the group of people from a small concentration of people in an area where they can cause many conflicts.
In this article it also says that leaded products such as gas, paint, and heavy metal can cause lower IQ's.  These have been linked to lower IQ levels for a long time for children that have been exposed to heavily leaded products for a long period of their lives.  So with taking out all of this lead out of these products they have proven that it helps lower crime rates and higher IQ's amongst the population.
The article also talks about how immigration actually helps build family structure in the United States.  Because it is found that families that come to the United States have strong ties in their family creating a strong family and making for a happier family.  This actually helps lower the crime rate in the United States because a person from a strong family bond is more likely to stay away from crime affiliated things and tend to stay in school.
In the article it has a section call "Home Bodies" that says during the Great Recession of 2008 police and researchers waited to see if there would be a spike in violent, but were only amazed to find there really wasn't. Because people found themselves staying at home because they had no where to go cause they had no job.
